The Google Revolution...

I was reading a post on zenhabits recently about how the author only uses Google Documents for all his office needs...

I switched over to Google Mail for the hosting of furtech.net almost a year ago and I've never looked back. I can use pop or imap for free if I wish (which I sometimes do to backup files). I love the way GMail archives files into one thread and the search-ability is great!

This got me thinking... Could I work 99% for my web browser? Do all my emailing, photo storage, IMs, Office Documents, etc from within Firefox. The 1% that isn't from a browser would be spared for music as I'm use to know a good web solution for that.

This would save large amounts of processing power and the ability to access any file anywhere but I'm not sure my Internet connection would handle working across the net constantly.

For the next week I will only use the following:

- Firefox
- Google Docs (via Firefox) for word processing and spreadsheets
- Gmail (via Firefox) for email
- Windows Media Player for MP3s
- if I absolutely HAVE TO maybe iTunes (which is worst software ever written but i'll save that for another post).
- Online versions of IM programs...

That means no MSN, GTalk, Pidgin, Word, Excel, Outlook...
